Hubdub "Chat" Extension

What is it?
Hubdub "Chat" is an extension to the Hubdub News Prediction Website.
Hubdub extensions are realized as a client script designed to run within the Greasemonkey plugin for the Mozilla Firefox browser. They are designed to integrate seamlessly into the Hubdub website, but are not an official part of the website and they are not officially supported by Hubdub. What is it's purpose?
Hubdub "Chat" allows direct communication with other members of Hubdub without the need to leave the site or to make private information publicly visible.
This extension is part of the Hubdub Community Pack Extensions.

Usage
The extension consists of two parts: A private chat window, and a public chat box. Both part can be independitly enabled or disabled in the settings for the extension. The settings are located under My Hubdub » Extension Settings.
To send messages, simple type a text into the small input area at the bottom of the window and press "return" or click on the "send" button. One can only send plain text messages. No formatting is supported.
The chatbox supports the usage of emoticons. Special character sequences are recognised and replaced with a small grafical icon. If a user types :-) the following grafic will be shown in the conversation box:

Any new incoming message can be indicated acusticly. This feature can be enabled in the extension settings.
Global Chat Box
The global chat box is integrated on each market list page and each market details page. Any user is able to post messages into this box and any other user recieves all messages.
Private Chat
The private chat window allows two hubdub users to communicate directly with each other. This chat is restricted to be seen by the participating users only. No other user can access the content of the conversation.
- Whom can I talk to?
After installing the script, an additional icon will be attached to every occurance of a username on any Hubdubd page. This little icon indicates two things: First: It's presence shows that the user has the Chat script installed. Second: The kind of icon shows the status of the user:
User is currently online and available
User is offline
- How do start a converstation?
To start a conversation, find the user you wish to talk to and simply click on the icon.
By clicking on the icon, two things happen:
- A new window will pop up. This window allows to conversate with the Hubdub user who's icon was clicked.
- A conversation invite is send to that user.
The invite will expire after a short time. If the invited user actually wants to chat with the initiator of the conversation, he must accept the invite within this time frame.
- How to respond to invites?
Whenever a Hubdub user invites an other user to a conversation, the invited user will be noticed about the invite by a small text layer appearing on any Hubdub page.
Whenever this message box appears, the user might simply wait for the life span of the invite to expire. The box will automatically disappear afterwards. The user may decline the invite by clicking the button. This will let the invite disappear. The inviting user will be noticed about this action in his chat window.
The user may eventually decide to accept the invite and actually join the inviting user in a conversation. In this case, the same pop up window will also appear for the invited user. The inviting user will be noticed that the invited user joined the conversation.
- How do I end a conversation?
Simply close the conversation pop up. Other subscribers will be noticed about the fact that a user left the conversation.
- Can I talk to multiple people simultaneously?
Yes. One can create multiple chat pop ups by clicking on a number of user icons. These conversations are handled completely isolated from each other. Broadcasting messages to all conversation partners is not possible this way.

- Privacy note
This extension uses a server to store and deliver messages from and to the conversation participators. This server is not part of or within the responsibility of the Hubdub site respectivily its owners. The messages are automatically removed from the server after a certain period of time and, aditionally, the number of messages stored at once is limited. No information about the content of the conversation is monitored or analysed in any way or persisted anywhere else, without explicit notification of the user. The online status of the user is not tracked or profiled.
